This review is from: Dell XPS8910-7020BLK Desktop (6th Generation Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 1 TB HDD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti (Personal Computers)
Wanted a higher performance PC for video editing and creation. Primarily use Pinnacle Ultimate 20 software and it works very well on this new PC.

Initial computer slow startup seems to get better with every new sign-in and is completely acceptable for a non SSD drive. Did notice that the fan gets a little loud but not obnoxious when heavy computing is done particularly using Adobe Photoshop editing of photos.

Added a 2GB internal HDD (7200 rpm) taken from an HP external drive and reformatted for use as the primary storage location for photos and videos. This was an easy upgrade as already had necessary cables from another source and it was an easy install with no problems.

Originally considered the older 8900 model, as there were many reviews and mostly positive comments, but decided the better dedicated video card and simplified new design was more in line with personal requirements.

This PC replaced an older HP desktop that stopped... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Newest XPS 8910 series is great !, October 20, 2016
This review is from: Dell XPS8910-7020BLK Desktop (6th Generation Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 1 TB HDD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti (Personal Computers)
The video card, an NVIDAI GeForce GTX 750 Ti, is much faster than the GTX 745 or GT 730 in the Dell XPS 8900. You can see this in online reviews and performance charts.
The XPS 8910 has a new lower profile case, the 460 Watt power supply is hinged and lifts up out of the case. There is room for the supplied 1TB Toshiba HD plus two additional HDs. Each HD is mounted in a standard 3.5" cage which is held in by two screws. To add an SSD you need a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter. You will need SATA cables and possibly extension SATA power cables for additional drives. The case has tool-less entry. You only need a Phillips screwdriver to remove or add HDs, a PCI card or any of the other components.
I had a problem with the DVD R/W drive. It wouldn't recognize CDs or DVDs after the first one loaded after a boot. You need to check the BIOS version and update it, if necessary! It had escaped my attention the the BIOS as delivered was v1.0.4. I had downloaded all the latest... Read more

I admit that I read the review complaining about the noise and thought they were over-reacting. False: This thing is confusingly loud. The unscientific decibel meter app on my phone says around 52-58 dB from about 3 feet away. Slightly less than a blowdryer noise, but erratic. It appears to be the power supply, and only when I start a game or intensive task. I'm not sure if I'll be returning the unit or contacting Dell about alternative heat syncs.
